The Memphis Grizzlies have a lot of young talent on their roster. From second-round center Xavier Tillman to star big man Jaren Jackson Jr., there is no shortage of up-and-coming players for Taylor Jenkins to work with.

But one player stands above them all.

That player is Ja Morant. Morant is the leader of this team and the piece of this franchise that the Grizzlies can’t win without. If his career goes well, the Grizzlies will have a ton of success down the road. If it goes badly, Memphis will crash and burn along with him.

Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant has as much confidence as anyone in the NBA

There are a lot of parts of Morant’s game to rave about. He has incredible speed. There isn’t another player in the league who can reach the same top speed as Morant and maintain control of the ball. In transition, he’s unstoppable.

His general athleticism is something that hasn’t been seen since Russell Westbrook stepped onto the scene over a decade ago. His speed combined with his jumping ability makes him virtually unguardable when he wants to get a bucket.

But neither of those things are the best part about Ja Morant as a player.

Ja Morant’s best asset is his confidence. You see it when the former Murray State point guard takes the ball to the lane with no fear whatsoever. He doesn’t shy away from confidence, he welcomes it.  When the game is coming down to a single possession, he wants the ball in his hands. He has that killer mentality that very few players have.

He showed off his confidence in an interview with Shaquille O’Neal for NBA on TNT.

As you can see, Ja Morant had few words to say about himself as a point guard. When Shaq asked where he ranked himself, he had very few words to say. He said that he’s a top-five point guard in the NBA.

Stats may tell a different story at the present moment, but there’s no reason that Morant shouldn’t be considered a top point guard in this league. Without his co-star, he has seen all-around improvements from his first year to his second year in the league.

Before you know it, this will be Ja’s league.
