For the Memphis Grizzlies, things have completely changed since the last time that they faced the Dallas Mavericks. Instead of fighting for a 6-seed in the most important game of either team’s season, Memphis will simply be trying to improve their record to reach the 8th seed, giving them a better shot in the play-in tournament.

Thankfully for Memphis, they’ve already clinched a spot in the competition, so everything beyond this point is playing for positioning.

The first game between these two teams was great, especially if you’re a Mavericks fan. I won’t recap what happened in detail, but it involved a pair of missed free throws by a 90% free throw shooter in Grayson Allen and an off-balance buzzer-beater 3-pointer by Luka Doncic. You can read about that here.

In this game, the Grizzlies will simply look to help spoil the Mavericks’ chances at earning a locked-in playoff spot. This game isn’t vitally important for either team, but it should get chippy regardless.

Will the Memphis Grizzlies get payback against the Mavs? Our contributors weigh in.

Jack Williams (Site Expert): I would like to think that the Grizzlies’ loss against the Mavericks a few weeks ago left a bad taste in their mouth. That said, I think they’ll come out with a high level of energy and dominate the first half. In typical Grizzlies fashion, I see them surrendering this lead in the second, leading to a close finish. That said, Jaren Jackson Jr. will be out and Jonas Valanciunas is doubtful, so it’s hard to see the Grizzlies winning this game. Never say never, but this one could get ugly.

Final Score: Memphis Grizzlies 107, Dallas Mavericks 121

Taylor Goebel: After beating the undermanned Pelicans in a close game last night they officially secured a spot in the play-in tournament for the playoffs this year. Their next task will be a tough challenge in the Dallas Mavericks, lead by superstar Luka Doncic. The Mavs had their ups and downs this season but are currently sitting in the 5-seed in the Western Conference. If the Grizzlies play as they did against a Pelicans squad that was missing basically their entire starting lineup then you can chalk up this game to be lopsided.

Final Score: Memphis Grizzlies 108, Dallas Mavericks 124
