Game 2, Memphis Grizzlies @ San Antonio Spurs: 129-112 (W)

The second and third games between these two teams came at an unfavorable time for the San Antonio Spurs. To this point in 2021, the Grizzlies have not had a better stretch of basketball than they did in late January.

To finish out the month, they won six games, adding a seventh game to the winning streak at the start of February. The Spurs caught the Grizzlies five games into that streak.

This January 30th matchup was the perfect culmination of everything the Grizzlies have done in 2021. The Grizzlies assisted on 34 shots, turned the ball over more than they would have liked to, and failed to hit free throws. They won in dominating fashion while still showing their youth.

Most notably, however, is the fact that the Grizzlies shared the love all across the board. With Jonas Valanciunas out, seven players scored 14 points or more in the ballgame. It was the type of team effort where every single member of the team was having a strong night offensively.

Defensively, it was a much improved night, as the Grizzlies limited DeMar DeRozan to just five points on 2-6 shooting. Nobody on the Spurs reached the 20-point scoring mark on the night.
