Memphis Grizzlies: Looking back at each past matchup vs. Spurs
Game 3, Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs: 133-102 (W)
I am willing to call this the Grizzlies’ best win of the season. Even though the Spurs weren’t an overtly threatening team, this was the peak of Memphis basketball in 2021.
To cap off a 7-game winning streak, the Grizzlies knocked off San Antonio by nearly 30 points. Once again, Jonas Valanciunas was out, so the Grizzlies had a second-round pick in Xavier Tillman getting the start down low.
This was a similar performance to that of the day prior, with no single star stepping up. In fact, bizarrely enough, the Grizzlies managed to score 133 points without a single player scoring 20 points or more throughout the contest.
Each of the 10 players who stepped on the court outside of John Konchar managed to score at least 10 points. It was a beautiful sight.
Gorgui Dieng, who is no longer on the team, scored a team-high 19 points, but Brandon Clarke, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson all scored at least 17 points. Once again, the Grizzlies had a huge assist total, dropping 37 dimes in this matchup.
Memphis also had 11 blocks and 11 steals, showing a defensive presence that wasn’t there in the first game. If the Grizzlies want to advance in the play-in tournament, they’ll have to replicate the success found in this game.
