The Memphis Grizzlies were looking to take a commanding 2-0 lead on the Utah Jazz in game 2. They fell short, losing a game that saw them give up 144 points.

That said, there was an extremely promising performance from the team’s young star in Ja Morant, who dropped a Memphis Grizzlies record of 47 points in the game. At the age of 21, this was an incredible sight for fans who are looking for a player who can bring them to the promised land.

At the end of the day though, the Grizzlies lost. But they’ll have a few more opportunities to get ahead in this series and it starts on Saturday night in a chippy series.

They’ll look to slow down a Jazz offense that was elite in the last game. Specifically, seven players scored at least 14 points. Donovan Mitchell was the team’s leading scorer, dropping 25 points in the contest. His return has changed the dynamic of the series.

Can the Memphis Grizzlies get back into a lead against the Jazz? Our contributors weigh in.

Jack Williams (Site Expert): The Memphis Grizzlies would have a huge advantage in this series if they could get this win. Winning both games in FedEx Forum could go a long way down the road for this underdog. Having watched both games, it still seems like Memphis is the better team, it just depends on how this game is officiated. Game 1 had a lot of flow, allowing Memphis to play stout defense and strong offense. Game 2 had next to zero flow, which caused the Grizz to struggle. I think the Grizz will get some help from home officials, leading to a close win for Memphis.

Final Score: Memphis Grizzlies 129, Utah Jazz 127

Taylor Goebel:  With the return of Donovan Mitchell for game 2, we saw the team that the Jazz had been all year which led them to boast the league’s best record throughout the regular season. Now that Mitchell is back in the lineup will we see more of the same from game 2 and how they dismantled Memphis in a 141-129 victory, or will we see Memphis come out fighting with their home crowd cheering them on? Even with Ja Morant setting the franchise record for points in a playoff game, with 47, the Jazz made light work of Memphis in game 2. This doesn’t bode well for the Grizzlies in game 3, even with home-court advantage.

Final Score: Memphis Grizzlies 122, Utah Jazz 135

Thomas Welch: The series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Utah Jazz makes its way to Beale Street on Saturday for game 3. The Grizz were able to steal game 1 in Salt Lake City while Donovan Mitchell sat out, but his return for game 2 reminded us all why Utah is the #1 seed in the West… they overwhelmed the Grizzlies even with Ja Morant’s record-setting performance. Mitchell is obviously not a whole team, but he is the team’s X factor, and Memphis still needs to find an answer to him. For game 3, fans should expect a close one, but Utah will likely go up 2
