Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant started his season in an indescribably bad shooting slump

Ja Morant’s 3-point shooting was a huge worry for everybody this past season. In fact, a lot of Memphis Grizzlies fans had a thought like this at some point during the 2020-21 season:

Is Ja Morant just a really bad shooter?

His repeated poor shooting performances were extremely worrisome, as he was already a relatively poor shooter for a point guard. His rookie season only saw him knock down 33.5% of his 3-point attempts, a relatively low number, even for a rookie. The general consensus around the league was that Morant could really only go up from there.

He wouldn’t.

The explosive athlete of a point guard struggled for most of the season from long-range, hovering around the mid-20s in shooting percentage for the bulk of the season. Thankfully, this would end near the finish of the 2021 season, as Morant eventually got on track from deep.

He still has a lot of room to grow, but there aren’t nearly the amount of worries that we were expecting as the offseason begins. Still, Morant will be putting up a lot of shots this offseason and will look to bring his late-season shooting momentum into the 2021-22 season.
