The Memphis Grizzlies are in a good position as they head into the offseason. After getting knocked out of the NBA Playoffs in the first round as an 8th-seeded team, they won’t be complaining about their past year.

In fact, in all likelihood, they’ll keep most of the same roster intact for the upcoming season. Everybody is young, so there aren’t many players that would make sense to trade. They may bring in a couple of new players, but that’s an entirely different conversation.

There is, however, a single player on the Grizzlies’ who didn’t really fit the team’s mold. That player is Jonas Valanciunas, the 28-year old Lithuanian Center.

Memphis Grizzlies C Jonas Valanciunas is at the center of a mock trade

Before I jump into things, it’s important to note that JV was arguably the most important player on the Grizzlies’ roster in 2020-21. With Ja Morant struggling to shoot the ball and seeing general inconsistency on the court, Valanciunas stepped up as this team’s best player for the bulk of the season.

That said, he disappeared in the NBA Playoffs and is in the middle of his prime. By the end of next season, he’ll be 30 years old.

As a result of the fact that Jonas Valanciunas is aging on a young Grizzlies team, he has been the center of a few mock trades already this offseason. We already discussed a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder involving the big man that was flat-out bad. Today, we’ll discuss a more realistic one.
