Memphis Grizzlies: 3 most important areas of improvement this offseason
The Memphis Grizzlies had a surprisingly strong season in 2021. They won more games than expected and earned the 8th seed in the Western Conference NBA Playoffs, something that virtually nobody expected them to do without Jaren Jackson Jr., their second-best player.
That said, Taylor Jenkins and his team left Grizzlies fans with much to desire as we approach next year.
While Memphis was extremely impressive in some categories, including steals, assists, and oddly enough, floaters, the Grizzlies struggled in some key areas of the game.
Having said that, I’m going to break down the Memphis Grizzlies’ three most important areas of improvement between now and the beginning of the 2021-22 NBA season, starting with the most important.
The Memphis Grizzlies need to improve their 3-point shooting, one way or another
Even though the Memphis Grizzlies seem relatively unphased by the fact that they struggle to shoot the ball, this is something that will catch up with them down the road. You cannot expect to compete for an NBA title without being an above-average 3-point shooting team.
Right now, Memphis is far from that.
In 2020-21, the Grizz finished 20th in 3-point percentage. Beyond that, they finished 24th in 3-pointers made, indicating that they were not giving much of an effort to put up shots. If they want to be successful, this has to change.
This could be done through offseason signings, player development, or dumb luck. Regardless of what happens, it’s clear that the Grizzlies have already begun to put forth an effort, as they drafted Desmond Bane in last year’s draft, a player who quickly became one of the team’s best long-range shooters.
