Memphis Grizzlies: 3 most important areas of improvement this offseason
The Memphis Grizzlies need to improve their free-throw shooting
The Memphis Grizzlies are not a particularly bad free-throw shooting team. In fact, when you look at the numbers, they stand near the middle of the pack in the league at 18th. That said, it seemed like time and time again, free throws caused Memphis to crumble in late-game situations.
Specifically, the Grizzlies’ best free-throw shooter in Grayson Allen missed two of his shots from the charity stripe to allow Luka Doncic to hit a miracle 3-pointer, resulting in a Memphis loss. These are the types of situations that will hopefully become a thing of the past.
In a way, it’s a good thing that free throws became a jarringly negative part of the Grizzlies’ season early. This should be a focus for a long time down the road and hopefully, Taylor Jenkins knows that.
That said, it’s not something you can snap your fingers and fix overnight. There aren’t any broader issues from the free-throw line, but a handful of situational issues. This season, we’ll give Jenkins a pass, as his team had less time to practice with a tightly-packed schedule.
That said, improvements won’t just be expected, they’ll be required next season. Memphis fans have gone through too much to see their team lose any more games because of poor shooting from the charity stripe.
