As a Memphis Grizzlies fan, I do not want to see Kyle Anderson go. He is an invaluable part of a Grizzlies squad that has more heart than most NBA teams. His all-around refined game and leadership abilities are unmatched by any player on the team and he would be missed dearly.

He’s the Grizzlies’ secret weapon.

That said, the 27-year old small forward will be entering the final year of his contract with the Grizzlies set to pay him $9.9 million next season.

As an older player, at least relatively speaking, Anderson will be one of the first to go in terms of a trade for this team. At this point in time, it’s unclear as to whether or not Memphis would actually consider trading him.

One thing remains clear — Memphis has to make a decision. At this point, they have to commit to Anderson as part of the team long-term or trade him away before his contract expires.

The Boston Celtics have reportedly had their sights set on Memphis Grizzlies wing Kyle Anderson for a while

Brian Robb of MassLive recently reported that the Boston Celtics have been interested in picking up Memphis Grizzlies’ wing Kyle Anderson for “quite some time now.”

The Grizzlies cannot be too surprised to see this, as Anderson is a strong NBA starting-caliber wing with a relatively friendly contract that is soon to expire. He has a more versatile game than most players of his stature and is coming off of a career year in 2020-21.

It would be hard to see him go, but now would be the time for Memphis to deal him out, as he is currently at peak value.

With the full return of Jaren Jackson Jr., Anderson will not play at the same level that he did this season, which could be used as proof of two things. First of all, his trade value will drop pretty drastically. He’ll get older and look worse on the stat sheet.

But what if his lowered value allows the Grizzlies to extend his contract for less? The Celtics will undoubtedly make some strong moves to try and bring Anderson to Boston, but this one depends on whether or not there will be interest from the Grizzlies’ side of the ball.

The Grizzlies have a decision to make and they have to make it soon.
