Generally speaking, Memphis Grizzlies fans are in a happy place at the moment. They’ve got a young coach in Taylor Jenkins who had his team punching above their weight class all season long and a roster full of players with limitless potential.

The Grizzlies finished 38-34, earning entrance to the NBA Playoffs and giving the first-seeded Utah Jazz a fit in the first round. They’d be knocked out but it was an extremely successful season for the youngest team in the postseason.

In all likelihood, this roster will stay almost entirely intact as we approach the 2021-22 season. There is absolutely no reason to believe anything else would happen. Still, this doesn’t stop media outlets, including this one, from coming up with trade hypotheticals in the offseason.

The Memphis Grizzlies have been rumored to be in the running for New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williams

This week, rumors started to swirl that Zion Williamson was not happy with the New Orleans Pelicans. The “rumors” didn’t have much strength to them but were based on a string of logic that started as soon as he was drafted by the team with the 1st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

After he was picked up by the Pelicans, he was reportedly upset, hoping he would have been drafted by the New York Knicks.

Since this, his family has produced a handful of complaints surrounding his team. Most notably, his family had complaints about Stan Van Gundy, who has since been fired. They have also been extremely vocal about roster moves, including JJ Reddick’s trade and offseason signings.

In all likelihood, Williamson will stick around for an eventual $200 million contract but it’s worth exploring otherwise. And that’s exactly what one media outlet did this week.
