Norman Powell’s play style would fit right in with the Memphis Grizzlies

One of the first words that you’ll hear to describe Norman Powell‘s play style is one that you may not hear very frequently at the NBA level anymore. Gritty.

He’s a pesty defender, averaging 1.2 steals per game, but at the same time, he can put the ball in the bucket better than most players on the Memphis Grizzlies roster. That much is evident by his 18.6 PPG average in 2021, shooting 41.1% from long range. And that’s exactly the area where he would help this Grizzlies team the most.

Right now, Memphis is not a strong 3-point shooting team. They’re not the worst in the league, but they’re closer to the bottom of the pack than the top.

Nobody is sounding the alarms just quite yet but the Grizzlies’ 24th-ranked 3-point shooting offense is something that could hurt them down the road if steps aren’t taken to improve.

Powell is a rare case of a strong volume shooter, something that Memphis does not have at the moment. He could put the ball in the bucket from long range while playing above-average defense, something that Taylor Jenkins’ team prides itself on.

The fit, in every way, is perfect. But does this make sense financially and would Powell be enough to raise Memphis to the next level?
