The Memphis Grizzlies, along with every other eliminated NBA team, have likely already begun to look ahead to the 2021 NBA Draft. After a few years of unrelenting success revolving around the draft, Memphis fans have to feel good about their odds of picking up a strong player this offseason.

Thus far, it’s relatively unknown who the Grizzlies may choose to pick up in the draft.

Earlier in the year, it was generally accepted that Memphis would try to pick up a strong shooting wing player but with the emergence of De’Anthony Melton and Desmond Bane, that may not make sense anymore.

In fact, it seems much more logical to pick up a big who can stretch the floor, a hypothetical that we explored by this site in regards to the Turkish League’s 18-year old MVP-turned NBA prospect in Alperen Sengun. But that’s not always realistic.

The Memphis Grizzlies may be in a position where the best available player isn’t the best fit

Even though it would make the most sense to draft a floor-stretching big, that may not realistically happen. In fact, oftentimes in the NBA Draft, you end up with a player that you don’t necessarily need.

Today, we’re going to explore the possibility of the Memphis Grizzlies drafting Ayo Dosunmu, a point guard from Illinois. Ayo is a big-bodied point guard at 6-5 and 200 pounds. He could potentially fill into the role that Justise Winslow was supposed to be in at this point.

So even though the Grizzlies don’t necessarily need another point guard, we’re going to explore one reason for and against drafting Ayo Dosunmu.
