Among other things, the Memphis Grizzlies were one of the most average scoring teams in the NBA last season. Weird phrasing, but it’s true — Memphis finished with the 15th-ranked scoring offense in the league.

The issue was never a lack of potential, as Memphis has a handful of players who can take over as a scorer. We saw Ja Morant having scoring outbursts, breaking a new playoff single-game scoring record with 47 points. This was part of a large handful of 30+ point scoring games from the Grizzlies’ young star.

Dillon Brooks consistently had single-quarter scoring explosions, specifically in the third quarter of multiple games. Jonas Valanciunas was always good for at least 15 points. Even so, consistency was missing.

To emphasize the lack of consistency from this team, the Grizz finished as the second-highest scoring team in the NBA in the month of April. In May, they dropped to 14th in the league, scoring over 4 fewer points per game.

The Memphis Grizzlies will turn to a few players to increase their average scoring output

On the season, Memphis was the 15th-ranked scoring team in the league, averaging 113.3 points per game. This number isn’t anything to hang their heads over, but it’s an area that fans will be expecting improvement in.

As a young team, the Grizzlies shouldn’t have any trouble seeing continued development from most of their players.

To get those improvements, Taylor Jenkins will turn to a few of his young players to help in increasing their points per game statistics in 2021-22. Here are those players.
