The Memphis Grizzlies should sign a backup point guard through free agency

I’d like to start this slide by thanking the guy in the tweet below for very condescendingly reminding me that free agency exists.

I had completely forgotten that free agency existed until Major Marc West very graciously reminded me of it. That’s sarcasm, I remembered.

This leads me to the next part of my plan in signing a backup point guard via free agency.

Memphis may choose to draft a player that they can groom behind Ja Morant to become a point guard. If they do, it won’t happen in the first round. There will be plenty of options available in the 40th-pick range if the Grizzlies choose to do this.

That said, the Grizz will need somebody who can fill in for the immediate future if they do decide to part ways with Tyus Jones. For that, they should look to free agency, where there’s a relatively deep class of point guards, at least if you’re in the market for a backup.

Next. Why the Grizzlies refuse to trade Dillon Brooks. dark

If Memphis is able to sign a strong point guard who can maintain some offense without Ja Morant on the floor, the Grizzlies’ 2021 roster will have no clear holes in it.
