The Memphis Grizzlies are likely looking to open up their options, guiding them toward Davion Mitchell

The further I get into researching for this article, the more confused I become. The Memphis Grizzlies could move up in the draft but how much would their options really open up?

If they move up, it seems like they’re moving out of point guard range and into forward/wing range. This would put them in a better position to take Jonathan Kuminga or James Bouknight than either of the point guards listed today. Either way, this post is running under the hypothetical that they’re looking for a point guard.

The only logical reason why they’d want to jump even higher than the 10th pick would be to have the assurance that they can get either point guard they want. This is, of course, assuming that they’re looking for another ball handler.

Specifically, Davion Mitchell is generally thought of as the second-best point guard in his class.

The 6-2 point guard doesn’t wow you with his size, but with a 6-5 wingspan, he can make a huge difference on defense. In college, that’s where he made his money. Mitchell was one of the best defenders in college basketball and did everything imaginable for a 6-2 guard.

The Baylor point guard has quick feet, can draw charges, and doesn’t foul very frequently. The best part? He does all of this while maintaining an offensive game. He averaged 9 points per game with a noticeable uptick in the NCAA tournament, scoring at least 12 points in all six Baylor games.

He shoots the ball efficiently, knocking down over 37% of his 3-pointers and about 46% of his field goals in general.

If Memphis is looking for an NBA-ready player, they should look no further than Mitchell.
