The Memphis Grizzlies have one of their most important NBA Drafts coming up in a long time. The most important one before this was a couple of years ago when Memphis drafted Ja Morant. This one, however, will tell a bigger story on which direction this franchise wants to go.
But amidst draft hype this year, a handful of picks near the top of the draft have already been leaked via Twitter. So far, we seem all-too-aware that Detroit will be taking Cade Cunningham and Houston and Cleveland will be splitting Jalen Green and Evan Mobley, in that order.
It’s always fun to have a leak or two before the draft, but if we know where everybody is going before tuning it, what’s the point? This has caused some backlash for Adrian Wojnarowski, who primarily reported on the teams’ selections.
Here’s his original tweet with all of the information.
Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant subtweeted Woj with a subtle jab about the 2021 NBA Draft
Nobody is thrilled to know the draft order right now outside of Detroit Pistons fans, so the reasoning behind Woj spilling the beans remains unclear. Even Ja Morant, a player who was once in the top three of his respective draft, is questioning why things are being done this way. Here’s what he tweeted about the situation.

The Grizzlies’ point guard asked a simple question. Why can’t we just watch the NBA Draft on TV to see where everybody is going? He even took a small jab at Woj by quoting “sources say” at the end of his tweet.
Morant added a laughing face emoji at the end as the cherry on top, but the point he pushes is absolutely correct. What is the purpose of giving a half-guarantee on what is going to happen six hours before the draft.
Thankfully, none of the pre-draft leaks have affected the Memphis Grizzlies in any way, so this should still be a hugely entertaining draft. Right now, the Grizzlies stand at the No. 10 spot, with their sights set on moving up between No. 6-8.
Even if this doesn’t happen, Grizzlies fans should have trust that their team knows how to draft well.
