2022 Grizzlies NBA Draft prospect signs with G-League Ignite
By Justin Lee
Barring any sort of crazy disaster, the Memphis Grizzlies will likely make the playoffs next season. Now that they have talent on their roster 1-13, they can start making a push to go deeper in the playoffs. Last season showed us that they are very close.
An NBA Playoff battle with the league’s best regular-season team in the Utah Jazz was just the start of something special.
Grizzlies looked poised to be outside of the lottery for the third consecutive season
But with that comes some cons. You typically do not get high picks in the NBA draft when you are a good team, which is fine. That just means it may be harder to find great talent. This year, the Grizzlies traded up to get Ziaire Williams, and hopefully, it works out. However, they were initially slotted to pick outside the lottery.
With that being said, Memphis may pick in the middle of the round next year due to how well they might play. This also means they could draft this player, a guy who is listed as a top-50 prospect but just signed with G-League Ignite.
Potential Grizzlies prospect MarJon Beauchamp to play with Ignite
According to ESPN, MarJon Beauchamp was a top-50 recruit in 2020. However, he has now elected to follow in the footsteps of recent rookies Jalen Green and Johnathan Kuminga and play for the G-League Ignite team.
Many people will ask the same question — if he was ranked so high in 2020, why isn’t he in the NBA yet? That would be a fair question.
Beauchamp uniquely decided that he wanted to play a season of junior college basketball.
At Yakima Valley Junior College, MarJon Beauchamp played 12 games, and his numbers were insane. At 30 points per game, nearly 11 rebounds a game, and five assists, the 6’7″ forward was showing out. However, when you play at a junior college, you do not get much recognition.
Now, the G-League Ignite team has offered him a contract, in which he will be playing for the team in the upcoming season. This will give Beauchamp a chance to prove himself that the numbers are no fluke. Not only that, but the 19-year-old will be able to develop his game against grown adults while not having to worry about his science project being due at midnight.
If Beauchamp is the real deal and lives up to his hype, he could be a sneaky player in the upcoming draft. As of late, the Grizzlies have been very good at finding great talent in the draft without having a super high pick.
