Pau Gasol, the most decorated player in Memphis Grizzlies history, should be next in line to have his jersey retired by the team

The 2001-02 NBA Rookie of the Year, who wore number 16 throughout his career with the Memphis Grizzlies, is virtually retired from NBA basketball.

We most recently saw him help his Spanish National Team in the Tokyo Olympic games, finishing the tournament by losing to Team USA in the quarterfinals.

Gasol is a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers and a three-time Olympic medalist. Pau Gasol helped Team Spain to a 2008 Olympic silver medal, a 2012 Olympic silver medal, and a 2016 bronze medal.

For the Memphis Grizzlies, Gasol is fourth all-time in franchise history for points scored (8,966) and third all-time in franchise history for total rebounds (4,096).

The six-time NBA All-Star played seven seasons with Memphis, becoming one of the most high-profile players the team has ever produced.

Gasol is an international basketball legend, an NBA legend, and an even better humanitarian.

The Grizz should retire #16, immortalizing Pau Gasol’s contributions to the city and the game of basketball.
