With the current log-jam at guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, the team could now look to move on from Tyus Jones as he enters the final year of his contract

The Memphis Grizzlies roster is stuffed at the moment, with 13 guards and wing players and seven post players — only 18 of those players are on guaranteed contracts at the moment.

The team will be going into training camp with an open mind and hopes that some of the players acquired this offseason will live up to their “high ceiling” potentials.

If one or more of those players (i.e. Kris Dunn, Carsen Edwards, Sam Merrill, Jarrett Culver) show the front office that they have what it takes to be on an NBA roster, it will likely make Tyus Jones an expendable asset.

Jones is entering the 2021-22 NBA season on the final year of his contract. If the Memphis Grizzlies can find a cheaper/younger/more skilled player, then the team will likely attempt to trade Jones to maximize his value. They can also use him to help trim the size of the roster down to the league-mandated 15 players + 2 two-way players.

It’s not clear what the market will bare for the former 24th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Jones has averaged 17.9 minutes per game throughout his career in a mostly back-up role, starting just 49 games out of a possible 382.

Jones is a dependable player who never tries to do too much on the floor. He takes care of the ball (only 0.7 turnovers per game in his six-year career) and can knock down shots when needed.

Let’s take a look at a few teams that might be willing to make a deal for Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones.
