3 storylines to watch in Memphis Grizzlies’ preseason opener
Grizzlies Preseason Opener, Storyline No. 3: Does Jarrett Culver have the potential to have a bounce-back season?
One of the bigger mysteries heading into this season comes in the form of a former sixth-overall pick. That sixth-overall pick is — or rather was — Jarrett Culver.
Culver came to the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason in a trade involving himself and Juancho Hernangomez in exchange for Patrick Beverley. All things considered, the Grizzlies got Culver for an extremely good price.
That said, we’ve all experienced something similar. You see a deal that’s too good to pass up at the store and impulsively buy that item. Once you have it, you realize that you’re not really sure what you’re going to do with it. That item, at least for the Grizzlies this season, is Culver.
The Grizzlies were already overflowing with wing talent and weren’t hesitating to send players off for cheap. This was evident by the fact that the Grizzlies sent Grayson Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for two future first-round picks. This, by the way, is a bonus storyline to watch, as Memphis will see Allen in their first preseason game on Tuesday.
We’ll see how he fits into the rotation alongside other young wings. More importantly, however, we’ll get an idea of whether or not he can have a bounce-back season with the Grizzlies.
He may have a lower ceiling than initially anticipated as the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he still has the potential to be a strong player at just 22 years old.
