Memphis Grizzlies Top Performer No. 1: Ja Morant

Who else would it be? You didn’t even have to watch the Grizzlies’ game last night to know that Ja Morant was going to be my top performer on the night.

The third-year Grizzly guard did everything right against Cleveland and even earned “MVP” chants from the crowd. I’d like to say that these were premature chants, but that would be a lie — Morant gave Grizz fans the full package on Wednesday.

Not only was he an elite scorer with 37 points, but he was still dishing the ball out effectively with six assists on the night. Morant also recorded two blocks to go along with the offensive accolades that he put together in this game.

He did this all while still finding a way to add to his highlight reel. He did so at first with a block that saw him hit his head on the backboard. Shortly after, he rose up for an alley-oop finish that, again, saw his head clear the backboard.

But again, that wasn’t even the best part.

The best part of Morant’s game against the Cavs was that he stepped up in the clutch. When the Grizzlies surrendered a late fourth-quarter run, Morant scored nine points and recorded an assist in the last 2:08 of the game. Grizz fans experienced flashbacks from his clutch performances in the play-in tournament last year.

If Morant continues to play like this, he’ll make the NBA All-Star game this season, no doubt about it.
