3 reasons October was a successful month for the Memphis Grizzlies
Reason No. 2: Dillon Brooks and Memphis Grizzlies’ Depth
If you have been box score watching to this point then you have most likely noticed that other than Ja, the other Grizzlies have struggled, barring the one exception of Desmond Bane.
If you are a true Grizzlies fan then you have noticed that Dillon Brooks has yet to participate in a game. His return has not been announced but from what we know about his injury it should not be too long, but his return cannot come soon enough. Dillon coming back not only helps take some of the offensive burdens off of Ja, but he also helps to fill a defensive hole that is created by starting three small guards in Morant, Bane, and Melton.
One would assume that with Bane’s performance to this point that he will continue in the starting lineup and De’Anthony Melton will move to the second unit however, Taylor Jenkins has shown he is not afraid to experiment with lineups. The trickledown effect will make a big impact reinforcing a lineup that has featured guards John Konchar and Rookie Ziaire Williams.
Even though the Grizzlies have been shorthanded they have already exhibited sneak peeks into why this front office has been excellent to this point. The team as it is currently constructed has the depth and versatility to compete with any other team.
On this most recent west coast trip they played a Los Angeles Lakers team that played a lineup of four players 6’8″ and over and then a few nights later played a Golden State team that played a lineup with four guards and Draymond Green at the five position and were competitive in both games having a chance to force overtime against the Lakers and defeating Golden State.
Once Dillon Brooks returns the lineup will be even more versatile but his return is not the only thing that will help the Grizzlies be better than they already have been.
