This Grizzlies trade would bring another lethal scorer to Memphis
By Justin Lee
Before we start this little experiment, let me start by saying this is all potential, and hypothetical, that is the fun in trades. The Memphis Grizzlies don’t need this trade to happen, but it would be very helpful in my opinion. However, there are some cons as well.
Looking at this Grizzlies team, they do have weaknesses. If they didn’t… well, we would be talking about the 2021 NBA Champions in the Memphis Grizzlies.
Even championship teams have weaknesses and flaws, but they may not be as noticeable as other teams, that is what separates the good from the great. Right now, Memphis is considered a good team, not yet great.
This potential trade can help the Memphis Grizzlies be where they want to be, and help them contend for a championship faster.
Of course, we don’t want to speed up the process of becoming a championship team by skipping steps and creating more flaws, because that usually does not happen. Look at the Dallas Mavericks, who are an amazing team with an amazing player in Luka Doncic.
However, the Mavericks were good too early. Luka Doncic was too good too early, making their task of rebuilding through the draft even harder, and that is not what we want for the Grizzlies.
But, I must say, this potential trade helps Memphis without messing anything up in the long term. They get a lethal scorer to help Ja Morant, taking some of the load off his shoulder, and they get another playmaker all in one player.
There are pros and cons to every trade, for any team, even in the big blockbuster trades. While this is not a blockbuster trade, it could make some noise throughout the league, showing everyone Memphis is serious.
Or, just maybe the trade could blow up and hurt the Grizzlies due to the flaws included. I think it’s time to dissect a potential trade with the Indiana Pacers, one that will have fans split down the middle.
