The Memphis Grizzlies would do well to inquire about the availability of Spurs forward Keldon Johnson.
The 29th overall draft pick is San Antonio’s second-leading scorer this season at 16.1 points per game. He can knock down threes and he plays hard and smart— a perfect wing partner for Morant.
The 6’5″ forward pulls down 6.5 rebounds per game and 1.2 steals per game.
In fact, Johnson would be in the top 5 of most major statistical categories if he were traded to the Grizzlies (points, rebounds, steals, free throws attempted, fewest fouls committed per game (among players who have played 10 or more games) and minutes per game.
The young player has only scratched the surface of his potential and would be well worth spending some assets on.
The Spurs would likely as for a lot in return, but trading role players for a bonafide starter and someone who is the same age as Ja Morant (22 years old).
A starting lineup of Morant, Brooks, Johnson, Jackson, and Adams sounds scary. A lineup of Morant, Brooks, Bane, Johnson, and Jackson sounds even scarier.
Draft picks would almost certainly need to be involved, but in what combination and quantity would be up for the Spurs to decide.
The Grizz would have to part with Melton, Brandon Clarke, and Tillman to make the salaries work. The Spurs could include Thaddeus Young to make the salaries work and help the Spurs get more assets from Memphis.
