Memphis Grizzlies Problem No. 2: General complacency and inconsistencies

I intentionally placed this “problem” directly after speaking about Taylor Jenkins, as I believe that the two are directly related.

The Memphis Grizzlies’ complacency is not new at all — we saw Memphis look like an NBA Finals team one day and a lottery team the next on several occasions last year. That said, the general consensus was that the team would mature as its main corps aged — after all, Memphis was the youngest team in the league last year.

Even if they had an up-and-down season, the Grizzlies were impressive for such an early stage of the rebuild.

That said, we’ve had a full season pass and the Grizzlies don’t look any more consistent than they looked last season. In fact, they somehow look less consistent, which should be extremely jarring considering they were arguably the least consistent team in the league last year.

This is evident by the fact that Memphis has a win against the best team in the league and a loss against the worst team in the league — it simply makes no sense. Unfortunately, this comes back to coaching. Even though it’s hard to pin poor shooting nights on Jenkins, he has to be able to find a way to have his team ready night in and night out.

But Jenkins isn’t the only problem.
