Memphis Grizzlies Number No. 2: 73

I was supposed to be leaving you on a cliffhanger when you clicked on the “NEXT” shortcode on the last page. In good and bad news, everybody already knows what that number represents.

The 73 above represents the margin of victory of the Grizzlies’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. That number also represents the all-time NBA record for margin of victory in a game, beating out the Cleveland Cavaliers’ long-standing record of 68.

I’ve already gone into depth on how this happened, but I’ll give a short rundown on my theory on how a blowout like this takes place. A 73-point margin is what happens when the starters of a team all play their best games of the season, causing them to be benched early. Then, the benchwarmers come in and play their best games of the season.

This much is evident by the fact that Memphis knocked down 62.5% of its shots and 52.8% of its three-point shots.

Conversely, the Oklahoma City Thunder had to play their worst basketball of the season. This can be translated to a 32.9% field goal percentage.

If you watched that game, you witnessed the most dominating performance in the history of NBA basketball.
