The Memphis Grizzlies have been playing their best basketball of the season in the past few games. In the team’s last five contests, they’re 5-0 in a jaw-droppingly dominant stretch of basketball that saw this Grizz squad break the NBA’s scoring margin record.

To clarify, the Grizzlies were on the winning side of that record. Without Ja Morant.

And in the absence of Morant, it’s easy to forget just how important the star point guard has been to this basketball team. Even though the squad is 9-10 with him and 5-0 without him, the Grizz point guard determines the success on Beale Street.

Thankfully, FanSided did not forget this.

Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant was recognized as one of FanSided’s Fandoms of the Year

This week, FanSided released their annual Fandoms of the Year. Ja Morant was near the top of the list.

Okay, technically there are no rankings here, but I’d like to think that Morant was among the top fandoms. The Grizz point guard was recognized for the excitement that he has brought back to the NBA in recent years. Here’s what FanSided said about him.

"“If you watch Russell Westbrook and feel kind of sad, wondering what could have been if his jumper had been a little better or if he’d carried his intensity a little more consistently. If you want a basketball game to feel like drinking a quadruple espresso. If you need something to break through the malaise and mundanity of life in the 21st century, then Ja Morant is the player for you.”"

On the season, Ja Morant is averaging career-highs in points per game, rebounds per game, and field goal percentage. The Grizz point guard has finally found a groove shooting the basketball and upon his return, should continue to be a force offensively for the basketball team in Memphis.

Here’s what FanSided’s Creative Editorial Director said about Morant.

"“All due respect to LaMelo Ball, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, but there is no more exciting player in the NBA right now than Ja Morant. He plays with a palpable electicity and often seems to be moving at another speed, if not another dimension, than everyone else on the floor. He has the requisite athleticism, creativity, intensity and lack of fear to make anything possible and even his failed dunks and turnovers are must-see highlights.”"

Ja Morant is turning Memphis into a destination and the world is on notice. There isn’t another player in the NBA who keeps eyes glued to the screen quite like the Grizz superstar. With his return nearing and the Grizzlies in top form, this could be a scary team by the end of the season.
