It’s “new year, new me” for Grizzlies guard Tyrell Terry, who just found out he’s been signed to the team for the remainder of the 2021-22 season on a two-way contract, according to multiple reports.

This contract allows Terry to compete for both the Memphis Grizzlies and their affiliated G-League team, the Southaven, Miss.-based Hustle.

Prior to signing the contract, Terry had been with the Grizzlies under the auspices of the league’s Covid-19 hardship protocol. Team’s are allowed to sign a player to a 10-day contract if the team is without the services of a signed player due to Covid-19.

He appeared in two games for the Grizzlies during his 10-day contract: Dec. 26 vs Sacramento and Dec. 31 vs San Antonio.

Who is Tyrell Terry, the newest Memphis Grizzlies player?

Terry, a second-year player out of Stanford, left the team to enter the NBA Draft at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season— the season prior to Grizzlies rookie Ziaire Williams arriving in Palo Alto.

He was selected No. 31 in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Many in the Mavericks’ organization felt that Terry was the steal of the draft and saw him having potential to one day replace Seth Curry, who left the team for Philadelphia last off-season.

Terry appeared in 11 games for Dallas in his rookie season, averaging 5.1 minutes per game. He was assigned to the Memphis Hustle in February 2021 and appeared in 13 games. He finished with averages of 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota native was a four-star recruit coming out of DeLaSalle High School in Minnesota. He was a finalist for Minnesota’s 2019 Mr. Basketball award, given to the state’s top high school hooper.

While at Stanford, Terry helped the Cardinal basketball team by averaging 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game as a freshman. He was named to the 2020 All-Pac 12 Freshman team.

In September of 2021, Terry announced a scholarship opportunity for students in North Texas and Minnesota to pay it forward to his communities. He pledge to award $5000 each to two students that write an essay on a then-undetermined topic.
