Memphis Grizzlies duds vs Utah Jazz

Free-throw shooting

As a collective the Memphis Grizzlies were great from top to bottom individually. No player had what might be considered a “bad game”. However, the one glaring weak point of this game was Memphis’ poor free-throw shooting.

The team shot only 75 percent from the charity stripe going 18-24 on the uncontested opportunities. Although this isn’t a horrendous percentage from the free-throw line, they still left six free points on the board, which could’ve provided them enough of a cushion down the stretch to not worry about a Jazz comeback attempt.

Ja Morant was the primary culprit of these misses as five out of the six are from him. It’s safe to say shooting from the foul line will be a point of emphasis during the next Grizzlies practice.

Perimeter defense

Memphis had a solid defensive outing against the Jazz. However, the main reason Utah was able to stick around for so long was due to their poor perimeter defense.

Utah connected on 17 three-pointers, which is a large amount especially compared to the Grizzlies who only made nine. There were eight threes made between Royce O’Neale and Danuel House Jr., almost eclipsing the total the entire Grizzlies team made just from those two players.
