Kyle Anderson, Memphis Grizzlies trade

Could the Grizzlies say “so long” to Slo-Mo?

The elephant in the room has been relatively quite during the season, but sooner or later it will become a major talking point. Just how soon will Kyle Anderson’s impending free agency be discussed?

Could the team look to preemptively trade the soon-to-be free agent and cash in for additional depth, three-point shooting or an insurance policy for a back-up point guard?

Kyle has been a fantastic piece for Memphis, but he will very likely be a desirable player among all teams who are in playoff contention this off-season.

Anderson is 28 years old and may command a contract that the Grizzlies simply don’t want to entertain.

Jaren Jackson’s extension kicks-in beginning next year and Ja Morant’s the year after that. The team has to keep the books clear of bloated contracts if it hopes to land another major piece to get them over the playoff hump.

The growing emergence of Ziaire Williams may make Anderson expendable. Williams is on a cheap, rookie contract and is much more athletic than Slo-Mo. He has the same size and skillset, but with the added value of being a consistent scoring threat.
