The Memphis Grizzlies traveled down to New Orleans for a Southwest Division match-up with the Pelicans just days before the All-Star Break.

The team was without the services of All-Star starter Ja Morant, who sat out of the game with ankle soreness from an incident that occurred during the team’s game last Saturday at Charlotte.

Just as the Grizzlies competed earlier in the season without Morant, tonight’s game was no different. Memphis, which led by as many as 20 points, easily dispatched the rebuilding Pelicans by a final score of 121-109 to improve to 41-18.

Let’s take a look at some of they key stats from this match-up.

Memphis Grizzlies got a career-night from Tyus Jones

Filling-in for the resting Morant was Tyus Jones, who has proven to be one of the best back-up point guards in the entire league.

You could not have asked for a better performance from the former Duke product, who finished the game with a career-high 27 points and 9 assists in 32 minutes of play.

Those are some Ja Morant-like numbers from a player that normally only averages 7.8 points and 4.1 assists in 20.5 minutes of action during this season.

Jones, who will be a free-agent at the conclusion of the season, keeps increasing his market value as the season goes on. Whenever he’s started in place of Morant, he has shined incredibly bright. There will likely be no shortage of teams who would love to make Jones a starting point guard next season with a lucrative contract that the Grizzlies will have a hard time matching.
