See what Ja Morant had to say after scoring 52 points in an all-time great performance vs Spurs
There is no doubt about it— Ja Morant is the greatest player to ever wear a Memphis Grizzlies jersey in the history of the franchise.
What he’s been doing this season is nothing short of spectacular. His stellar play came to a crescendo against the San Antonio Spurs Feb. 28.
The Memphis Grizzlies superstar scored a career-best and franchise record 52 points against the Spurs. He was 22 for 30 from the field, including four made threes. Additionally, Morant chipped in 7 rebounds and 2 assists in the 118-105 win.
Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant has back-to-back career games
Ja Morant literally just scored a career-high 46 points two days prior vs the Chicago Bulls, putting on a slew of highlights. Somehow he was able to top that performance with an even better one against San Antonio.
Between Morant’s 35-foot three pointer, his career-best dunk and a buzzer-beating full-court alley-oop, this is going to be a game Grizzlies fans remember forever.
Here’s what Morant had to say in the moments after the buzzer sounded and Bally Sports sideline reporter Rob Fischer interviewed the 22-year-old All-Star.
Morant on his teammates making the career-night possible
“Man that’s what it’s all about. Those my dogs. We’ve battled each and every night since day one. We all got each other’s back. We all happy for each other’s success. That just shows you right there how they root me on and cheer me. I got close and they told me, go get 50. And you could tell at the end they was looking for me.”
Ja Morant on what it was like dunking on 7’1″ Spurs player Jakob Poeltl
“I was just a little frustrated. I got put in a headlock, but they called a jump-ball [a few plays prior]. So, I had to go finish with authority—finish the play. Finally. You know, everybody has been saying “almost” [dunking on players]. There goes one for ya’ll right there.”
Ja Morant on catching and making a Hail Mary alley-oop from Steven Adams
“Steve-o looked at me and just told me to run. I just started early. I just saw him try to put it as close to the rim as he can. You know, he delivered a pass and I put everything in to the shot and it went in.”
Morant on the Spurs keeping it close throughout most of the game
“Coach got on us. We was giving up too much points, real easy baskets. So, we had to lock-in in order to come out with a win, which we did. [We] went down and executed on the other end, came out with a big win at home—first one back since the [All-Star] break. It’s only right that we do it for our fans.”
