We went 64 days between seeing Dillon Brooks compete in a Memphis Grizzlies uniform and now the rumor mill is swirling that he’s being coveted by another team in the offseason.

The former Oregon Ducks standout returned to the court March 13 when the Grizzlies faced the Oklahoma City Thunder after injuring his left ankle Jan. 8 against the Clippers.

Brooks surprised many by starting in the game and ended up playing 26 minutes by the time the final horn sounded. He chipped in 15 points, 4 assist and 2 rebounds in the 125-118 win.

It’ll likely take a few games or a couple of weeks for Brooks to get back in game shape. The hope is he’ll get back to competing at the high level we last saw him, anchoring this Grizzlies defense and taking over scoring duties when necessary.

Brooks’ ability to score and defend the opposing team’s best player on a nightly basis is a reason why many teams wish they had him on their roster.

Do the Boston Celtics covet Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks?

Our sister site, Hardwood Houdini, points out the sizeable contingency of Celtics fans that would love to see Dillon Brooks playing in Boston.

After this season, Brooks will be in the final year of his contract and eligible for a nice increase from the $12 million per year he’s currently making.

As Hardwood Houdini suggested, the Celtics would have to include Marcus Smart or recently acquired Derrick White in any trade involving Brooks.

A trade featuring Brooks to the Boston Celtics might look like this:

Boston receives: Dillon Brooks and Xavier Tillman Sr.
Memphis receives: Marcus Smart/Derrick White and a future first round pick

Let’s take a look at why the Grizzlies might do this and reasons why they might not.
