Memphis Grizzlies announce they are sidelining Ja Morant for at least two weeks

Ja Morant has been in the NBA MVP conversation for most of this season, dazzling fans around the country with his otherworldly highlight plays and superb leadership.

Morant plays such a fast and physical style of game and his body is taking a little bit of a toll. He has already missed time this season with a knee sprain and back soreness.

Ja Morant has not played since injuring his knee at the end of the March 18 game at Atlanta. With just a few minutes left in the game, Morant went down awkwardly and scurried into the tunnel and did not return.

Fans were optimistic and thought Morant would be out just a few games, but it turns out the superstar player will be out for an additional two weeks (or more), according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Morant is set to be checked out by training staff and medical personnel on or around April 7. If he gets the green light to resume competition, that will leave him just two regular season games to get back in to the flow of things before the 2022 NBA Playoffs begin on April 16.

The Grizzlies could possibly get Morant back in time for the April 9 game vs New Orleans and April 10 game vs Boston.

The good news for Memphis Grizzlies fans is that the team is 15-2 this season without their leading scorer and leader, which is a rare sight in this day and age.

Tyus Jones will likely continue to get the start in place of Ja Morant, likely giving him even more negotiating power once he becomes a free agent at the conclusion of the season.
