No 5. Desmond Bane set team record for most made 3-pointers
Longtime Memphis Grizzlies fan-favorite Mike Miller held the franchise record for most 3-pointers made for 15 years before Desmond Bane took the crown on March 23.
During the 2006-07 season, Mike Miller drained 202 made threes for the Grizzlies. Before Miller, the closest a player came to touching the longstanding feat was Mike Conley and Juan Carlos Navarro.
Conley made 171 3-pointers during the 2016-17 season and Juan Carlos Navarro made 156 3-pointers during the 2007-08 campaign.
Bane has been shooting a lot of threes and making a lot of threes. His 3PT FG% is 42.9% this season, which is mind-boggling for longtime Grizz fans, considering how poorly this franchise has historically shot the three-ball.
Bane was recognized as one of the top shooters in the NBA this season when he was invited to participate in the 3-Point Contest held during this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend.
The former TCU star is at 222 made threes and counting for the Grizzlies this season.
No 4. Memphis Grizzlies won their first ever division title
For the first time in the team’s 27-year history, the team has the distinction of claiming a division title.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t really mean a whole lot. It doesn’t guarantee the team anything or award the team anything.
I suppose it gives you the bragging rights of being the best among a handful of arbitrarily grouped teams. This year, the Grizzlies had better seasons than the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans— which is saying something since four of the five teams are competing in the postseason.
However, in divisional games this season, Dallas had the best record, going 13-2 against the Grizzlies, Spurs, Rockets, and Pelicans. Memphis had the next-best division record at 10-5.
But, hey, a division title is a division title— we don’t make the rules.
