The Memphis Grizzlies (0-1) lost the series opener at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-0) in disappointing fashion 130-117.

The Timberwolves played outstanding basketball and had some help from several Grizzlies players getting into foul trouble that forced them to sit on the bench for longer than usual stretches.

Dillon Brooks, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Steven Adams finished the game with a combined 14 fouls between the three of them.

These are just a few of the examples of why the Timberwolves prevailed in Game 1. The Grizzlies got out-hustled, out-worked, and out-played on way too many possessions.

But, there’s no need for panic, Grizzlies fans. There are plenty of things that can be fixed and will be fixed before Game 2.

Let’s take a deeper look at five reasons why we shouldn’t panic after a surprising Game 1 loss to the Timberwolves.

No 5. Rest and rust hurt the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1

It seems Head Coach Taylor Jenkins and the Memphis Grizzlies staff were perhaps too conservative in their approach to getting the team ready for the playoffs.

The starters and many key contributors had not played in a game since April 9 and it showed. It’s extremely difficult to go from playing three games in a week to playing no games in a week to going to back to playing three games in a week.

Game 1 was a very costly way to shake off the cobwebs and get back into the rhthym of the usual grind and schedule of an NBA season/playoffs.
