By nearly every possible measure, the Memphis Grizzlies should not have won Game 5 vs the Timberwolves.
But an ailing Ja Morant put the team on his back in the four quarter, scoring 18 of his 30 points in the final period. He played 44 out of a possible 48 minutes in this game.
The superstar point guard hit the game-winning shot with 1.0 seconds left on the clock after trailing for nearly the entire second half.
Memphis Grizzlies complete comeback on Ja Morant game winner
Memphis didn’t take their first lead until 1:03 left in the game when Morant hit a go-ahead three to make it 107-106.
After some back-and-forth free throws, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards tied the game with 3.7 seconds left in the game.
Morant then took matters into his own hands, making the go-ahead floater over Jarred Vanderbilt. Minnesota had no timeouts remaining and attempted a half-court heave that was no good.
This was all after Morant through down a ferocious dunk that many are calling the best dunk of the playoffs.
Morant had another near-triple double in the 111-109 win, finishing with 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists in the victory that enabled the Memphis Grizzlies to go up 3-2 over the Timberwolves.
The game now shifts to Minnesota, which becomes a must-win game for the Timberwolves or their season will be over. Memphis can clinch the series and advance to round two with a win.
Game 6 is set to be played on Friday, April 29 at a time to be determined. The time in which Memphis plays will be determined on how some of the other playoff games shake out. We do know the game will start at either 6 PM, 7 PM or 8 PM CST.
If necessary, a hypothetical Game 7 would be played in Memphis on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
