5 reasons why the short-handed Memphis Grizzlies upset the Warriors in Game 2
No 2. Memphis Grizzlies beat the Warriors at their own game: 3-pointers
In one of the most surprising feats of Game 2, the Grizzlies outshot the Warriors from beyond the arc.
The Grizzlies were 14-45 from beyond the arc. The Warriors were just 7-38 from three. Something like that is unheard of for these two teams.
The most threes the Grizzlies ever attempted this season was 50, done in October of 2021. So, the fact that Memphis was able to shoot such a high volume (and make a chunk of them) is rather impressive.
The fact that Golden State made just 7 threes in the entire game is crazy. That statistical anomaly will likely never happen again. The fewest threes the Warriors made in a game all season was 5. Their second-fewest was 7, which was done back in January, according to Stat Muse.
Did Memphis catch Golden State on a basically season-worst shooting night? It certainly seems that way on paper.
No 3. Ziaire Williams a huge spark for Memphis Grizzlies in his return
After missing the final game of the first round vs Minnesota and Game 1 vs Golden State, rookie forward Ziaire Williams made his triumphant return to the lineup.
Williams made a massive impact on the game, as expected. His defense and three-point shooting were instrumental in Memphis getting out of several bad spots throughout the game.
If it were not for Williams, the Grizzlies very likely would not have been in a position to win this game. Z-Will finished the game with 15 points (4-8 3PT) and 5 boards in 28 minutes,
