Juicy J sees similarities in Memphis Grizzlies and Three Six Mafia
Homegrown rapper Juicy J, of Three Six Mafia fame, recently appeared on Jalen & Jacoby to discuss his fandom of the Memphis Grizzlies and why he believes they’ll be winning multiple championships.
Dressed in a Ja Morant City Edition Memphis Grizzlies uniform and broadcasting from the backseat of a car on his phone, spoke with Jalen and Jacoby about what the expectations are for this young Grizzlies team.
Juicy J knows how hard it is to reach the pinnacle of an industry in a small market like Memphis. Hailing from North Memphis, the rapper and his group, Three Six Mafia, have won an Academy Award and an American Music Award for their music.
Juicy J says Ja Morant destined to deliver championship with Memphis Grizzlies
“Legendary,” Juicy J said when asked about what he thought of Ja Morant after his transcendent Game 2 performance vs Golden State.
“Just like when Jordan was with the Bulls, he took it all the way to the championship. They won numerous championships,” Juicy J said. “Same thing as Memphis. Things take time, but now’s our time: the music is poppin’, the NBA team is poppin’. Come on, man. M-town man, M-town in the building.”
When asked what his concerns are against Golden State, he said he’s not concerned because Memphis just finds a way to win.
“I don’t care who you got on your team. I don’t care if you got the best shooters or the best whatever, we’re gonna always win, man. That’s just how it is. Everybody have they time. It’s our time,” he said.
Jalen and Jacoby then put Juicy J on the spot and asked him how many titles Ja Morant would be delivering for Memphis in his career.
“I don’t know, man. You never know, man. It could be more than Jordan. It can happen,” he said confidently.
Juicy J preached about the power of the underdog mentality and how important it will be for the Grizzlies to move forward with that mindset.
“You can’t never say it can’t happen. Things can happen, man, when you least expect it. Just like Three Six Mafia,” he said.
“We thought Three Six Mafia would be the greatest of all time rap group, you know? Academy Award winners, Grammy award winners, producers— all this,” he said gesturing to his car and its amenities.
“Anything is possible, man, when you are the underdog,” he said with some sage parting advice.
Some wise words from one of the most talented Memphians in the entertainment business.
Ja Morant is going to keep playing with a chip on his shoulder and will no doubt be delivering a title to Memphis— probably much sooner than we originally thought.
