Despite ending the season with a 110-96 Game 6 loss vs the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies should be proud of all that they accomplished during the 2021-22 season.
It’s tough to keep that top-of-mind right now, especially since Game 6 was a very winnable game, despite not having Ja Morant available.
The Grizzlies got smoked on the glass in Game 6, getting out-rebounded 70-44. Golden State pulled down 25 offensive rebounds vs just 10 on offense.
One of the biggest reasons the Grizzlies even had a chance in this game was because they forced the Warriors to commit 17 turnovers (vs just 6 for Memphis).
But, enough about that. This Grizzlies squad deserves a ton of credit.
Memphis Grizzlies had history-making 2021-22 season
Despite ending on sort of a down-note, what a wild ride it’s been for the Memphis Grizzlies this season. They ended the season tied with the most regular-season wins in franchise history.
The Grizzlies boats the NBA Executive of the Year (GM Zach Kleiman) and the NBA’s Most Improved Player (Ja Morant).
Taylor Jenkins finished second in the vote for NBA Coach of the Year. Jaren Jackson Jr. should have been a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. He’ll likely be considered for NBA All-Defensive Team.
Having so many players and personnel recognized by the NBA is a clear indicator that this team has a definitive culture being built in Grind City. No longer is Memphis an afterthought or not a serious destination for big-time basketball players.
Even though the season is over, there is so much to be proud of in how this team grew and what they’ve accomplished.
We’ll continue to unpack some of that, plus dive into how the Grizzlies can get better in the offseason in the weeks and months ahead.
I hope you’ll join me and continue to read as we go into the 2022 offseason. There will be plenty to talk about, including recapping a phenomenal season, looking ahead to the 2022 NBA Draft, NBA Free Agency, and debating the next moves this team should be making.
