The rookies picked out their new Memphis Grizzlies jersey numbers

One of the first orders of business after joining a team is selecting a jersey number. The new players posed with their selected numbers at the end of the press conference.

  • Jake LaRavia will wear jersey number 3 for the Memphis Grizzlies
  • David Roddy will wear jersey number 27 for the Memphis Grizzlies
  • Kennedy Chandler will wear jersey number 0 for the Memphis Grizzlies
  • Vince Williams will wear jersey number 5 for the Memphis Grizzlies

LaRavia will be wearing the same number as current two-way player Tyrell Terry, which could make for some interesting speculation. Other notable players who have claimed that jersey number in team history: Shareef Abdur-Rahim (1997-2001), Allen Iverson (2010), and Grayson Allen (2020-21).

Roddy’s number 27 has only been worn by Kalin Lucas, a fringe player that competed for the Grizzlies for just one game (six minutes).

Chandler’s number 0 (not to be confused with the rare double zero), was worn by the recently traded De’Anthony Melton (2020-22). Former Grizzlies Drew Gooden (2003) and JaMychal Green (2015-19) also have worn that number.

Williams’ number 5 has been a popular number among Grizzlies players, having been in circulation every season since 2010. Yves Pons, who is set to be a free agent next month, wore this number during the 2021-22 season. This number has been used by former Grizzlies Elliot Perry (2002), Courtney Lee (2014-16), and Dusty Hannahs (2020).
