Memphis Grizzlies: 5 revelations from rookie introductory press conference
No. 5: We’re not sure Danny Green will ever really join the Memphis Grizzlies
Danny Green, the sharpshooting veteran acquired in the trade package involving De’Anthony Melton and the No. 23 overall pick, suffered an awful injury during the 2022 NBA Playoffs while he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.
He tore his ACL and LCL and is reportedly unlikely to play at all during the 2022-23 season as a result of surgery, recovery and rehabilitation of those injuries.
Kleiman was asked about what will happen to Green and if the 35-year-old will ever report to Memphis.
“TBD on Danny,” Kleiman said.
ESPN NBA Front Office Insider Bobby Marks reported that Danny Green has $6.96 million guaranteed of the final $10 million remaining on his contract.
The remaining $3.1 million of his contract will become guaranteed as well if he’s still on the Grizzlies’ roster after July 1.
Because Memphis will likely not want to have a roster spot being held by a player that cannot play and contribute, keep an eye on him to negotiate some sort of buy-out or be waived to clear up a roster spot for someone who has a better chance of competing and getting on the floor during the 2022-23 season.
