Ja Morant has catapulted himself into the upper echelon of NBA talent in just three short seasons, quickly becoming a favorite player among scores of fans.
He was, after all, named a starter in the fan-driven vote for last year’s NBA All-Star game. It’s not just fans who have taken notice of Morant and his incredible athleticism, but it’s young, up-and-coming players, too.
In fact, a San Antonio Spurs rookie revealed in a recent interview that he’s most looking forward to competing against the Memphis Grizzlies star.
Spurs rookie Blake Wesley says he can’t wait to play against Ja Morant
That rookie is Blake Wesley, the first ever one-and-done prospect to come out of Notre Dame in program history.
In a recent interview, Wesley was asked about an idol of his he can’t wait to play against in his rookie season, according to news outlet KENS.
"Asked about an idol who he’s watched and can’t wait to compete against, he had an answer that will also make you feel very old.“Probably Ja Morant. His ability to get to the rim, he’s fast, he’s just gifted. It’s gonna be crazy.”"
This is a wild concept to get behind. Blake Wesley could have named anyone in the NBA: Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Yet, he thinks of and names Ja Morant as an idol he’s really looking forward to competing against next season.
This just goes to show you the impact Morant is having on the game of basketball. If there was ever any question the impact No. 12 is having on the game, that just got put to rest by 19-year-old Blake Wesley. Morant has officially entered the conversation as one of the best talents in the NBA.
There’s little doubt Morant will link up with Wesley when the Grizzlies and the Spurs face off during the regular season. Morant is one to always recognize game.
