Ranking the Top 10 backcourts in the NBA for 2022-23 season
Can Trae Young and Dejounte Murray form best NBA backcourt in 2022-23?
Expectations are high in Atlanta, with the Trae Young teaming up with the newly acquired Dejounte Murray from the Spurs.
Atlanta is one of three NBA teams that enjoy having two All-Stars in their backcourt and, based on their 2021-22 averages, have the highest combined scoring average of any starting backcourt in the league at nearly 50 points per game. Will there be enough possessions to go around for the two young stars?
They are a bit undersized (both measuring smaller than 6’4″), so it’ll be interesting to see how teams defend these supreme scorers that can score from anywhere on the court.
I’m counting on these guys being able to figure it out and produce great results on offense. Will they be able to slow opposing teams’ best players on a nightly basis? Neither are premier defenders, but Murray’s length and athleticism will help close that gap.
Chris Paul, the wily veteran and facilitator, paired with pure scorer in Devin Booker, make for one of the most lethal backcourt combos in the NBA.
Booker is arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA (26.8 ppg) and can do a little bit of everything. Chris Paul, 37, can still take over games with his unparalleled handles, decision making and leadership.
This backcourt was just a couple of games away from winning the 2021 NBA championship against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Ever since Paul’s arrival in Phoenix, the Suns have been contenders for an NBA championship. This upcoming season is no exception and the reason they are perennial contenders is because of these two outstanding guards.
They’re the champs for a reason. The Golden State Warriors have won five championships with this starting backcourt of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Both are still in their prime and enter the 2022-23 season with one of the highest combined scoring averages of any backcourt in the NBA (45.9 ppg)
Curry and Thompson are the duo to chase next season, having set the gold standard for a backcourt tandem that few will ever reach.
Curry and Thompson’s three-point shooting ability is unprecedented. They can outshoot anyone and have held the top spot as the best backcourt duo in the NBA for a long time now.
