It seems like every passing season, the Memphis Grizzlies bring out a new ace up their sleeve. Last season, it was Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, both taking a massive leap and playing a vital role in the team’s success.
As the Grizzlies try to prove themselves as a considerable contender next season, there are a bunch of players that could break out for them and help them reach their goals. Let’s have a look at the most likely ones.
Ziaire Williams slated for big leap in year two with Memphis Grizzlies
When the Grizzlies drafted Ziaire last summer they knew they would have to be patient with him. Williams struggled to adjust in the beginning of his rookie season but began to look more comfortable as it went by and eventually earned an active role in the rotation.
In Summer League, we saw him make leaps as a ball-handler and shot creator. It remains to be seen how those will translate to the NBA’s regular season, but he did look like a more confident basketball player.
While I don’t expect him to double his scoring average—with the amount of scoring options the Grizzlies have they won’t need him to— I could see him getting 13+ points per game with increased and improved three-point shooting.
On the defensive end, he has demonstrated great potential. His size helps him defend bigger wings and he has the quickness and length to hold his own against smaller guards. With Melton gone, he will be asked to be the primary defensive stopper off the bench and I think he has all the tools to achieve this.
