Key dates for Memphis Grizzlies fans to know before 2022-23 season
We are getting close to the start of the new season for the Memphis Grizzlies, but there are some important things that have to happen first.
Media day, training camp, and the start of the preseason are just a few of the important dates that are coming up in the next few weeks.
Below, we’ve got all the key dates you need to make note of before the 2022-23 regular season begins.
September 24
Memphis Grizzlies Night at AutoZone Park
The Memphis Redbirds, the city’s Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals is hosting a Grizzlies-themed night at an upcoming home game. The team is giving away Grizzlies-inspired baseball jerseys to the first 5,000 fans and beloved Grit N Grind-era player Zach Randolph will be on hand to sign autographs.
September 26
Memphis Grizzlies Media Day
Media Day is a time in which all players on the team’s roster are expected to take the podium in front of the media and answer questions. The team will take photos in various team jerseys for promotional and media materials.
September 27
Memphis Grizzlies Training Camp begins
The Grizzlies are slated to begin training camp the day after Media Day, which is set for Sept. 27. The overwhelming majority of NBA teams are all reporting to training camp on this day, save for the four teams competing in preseason games outside North American: Golden State, Washington, Atlanta, and Milwaukee— they report Sept. 24.
October 1
First Memphis Grizzlies preseason game
The team will kick off a five-game slate beginning Saturday, Oct. 1 at Milwaukee. The game will be televised.
The full preseason television schedule can be seen here.
October 17
Last day to re-sign Brandon Clarke to a contract extension
This is the league-mandated deadline in which rookie-scale extensions can be signed. This really only impacts Brandon Clarke. If the Grizzlies and Clarke don’t come to terms on a contract extension, the former Gonzaga star will become a restricted free agent after the 2022-23 season. Hopefully, the two sides agree on a deal, but you can understand why Clarke may be better off waiting to see if he can increase his on-court value while Jaren Jackson Jr. is out recovering from off-season surgery.
October 19
Memphis Grizzlies 2022-23 season opener
The first game of the new season will take place at the FedEx Forum against the New York Knicks on ESPN.
It’ll be the first time the team has officially taken the floor since losing to the Golden State Warriors 4-2 in the Western Conference Semifinals in last year’s playoffs.
