5 players you won’t believe ESPN says are better than Desmond Bane
By Reed Chapman
No. 62 Jalen Green vs No. 68 Desmond Bane
Coming in at number 62 on the list was Jalen Green.
Green had a very good rookie season on the offensive side of the ball, without a doubt.
He managed to put up 17.3 points a contest, and his stellar ability to create his own shot mixed with his springy athleticism made him an exciting player to watch in his first year in the league.
His efficiency was not the greatest, but that is to be expected from a shot-creator such as Green in his rookie year. He shot 42.6% from the field and 34.3% from the three point line. Not terrible, but still not as efficient as some would like.
He also finished the regular season almost as good as anybody, as in his last nine games of the year he averaged 28.1 points while shooting 48% from the field and 42% from downtown, and dropped an eye-popping 41 points in the Rockets’ season finale.
There is no denying that Green showed flashes of one day becoming an elite scorer of the basketball. The problem with Jalen Green however, would be the horrendous play on the other side of the basketball.
As you can see in the tweet above, Jalen Green was the second most negative defender in the league, slightly behind Trae Young.
If a player is that bad defensively, it has to take away some of the impact that they have on offense no matter how good of a scorer that they are.
In this case, the fact that Jalen Green is ranked ahead of a way more efficient and more productive scorer in Desmond Bane, while also adding in Green’s defensive woes compared to Bane’s more than solid defense makes it impossible for Green to rightfully claim this spot.
When it comes down to it, Desmond Bane should certainly be ranked above Jalen Green.
