Appearing on the team’s daily morning talk show, Rise and Grind, Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Taylor Jenkins provided a brief medical update on Jaren Jackson Jr. as part of NBA Media Day.
The team had announced back on June 30 that the former No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft would be out of action for 4-6 months to recover from surgery that repaired a stress fracture in his right foot.
This would put him back on the court sometime in the vicinity of Oct. 30 and Dec. 30. But, with such a delicate injury and an important cornerstone of the Grizzlies, the team will understandably be cautious with Jackson, especially with his prior injury history.

While on the Sept. 26 edition of Rise and Grind, host Jessica Benson asked Taylor Jenkins if he could provide an update on Jaren Jackson Jr. and where he’s at in his recovery process.
“I’ve been really proud of the efforts JJ has been making,” Jenkins said. “The timeline’s still the same right now, he’s progressing really well.”
Jenkins praised Jackson for putting in the work during the long offseason and even went as far to say that his spirits have been great throughout the process.
“The commitment he’s had to be here all summer and now he’s starting to do a little bit on the court— one on zero stuff. cleared medically to do that. We’ll figure out how he’ll be deployed in training camp ,” he said.
Jenkins alluded to Jackson getting some additional images taken since his surgery and said things are right where they should be for the big man.
“All the images are showing good signs of healing and I think the timeline is the timeline right now, but we’ll have more updates as we get going forward,” Jenkins said.
