3 Reasons why extending Steven Adams was smart move for Grizzlies
By Noah Hancock
3. Steven Adams is Loved by Memphis Grizzlies fans
It is obvious to anyone who watches the Grizzlies that this team has chemistry like no other. Steven’s teammates love having him on the team, and because of that, the city does as well.
One of the most defining moments of Steven’s time in Memphis was the last few playoff games against Minnesota. Steven had not played well against Karl-Anthony Towns. So, Taylor Jenkins decided to bench Steven. Most starters in the league would be appalled that his coach would bench him in the playoffs. Steven, however, decided to take a back seat, cheer, encourage, and coach his teammates in order to help bolster them to a series win. This kind of comradery can only come from having a tight-knit team.
In my opinion, the key to Memphis’ success has been its chemistry. In order to keep that chemistry, they need to keep the team as together as possible. That means signing guys to extensions and developing drafted and acquired talent.
Keeping Steven is good for Memphis on so many levels. Steven will look to continue his spectacular play with Memphis for the next 3 years (one remaining contract year and two-extension years). With Adams, Memphis will continue to perform well.
